Speaker Terer Condemns Attack on Journalists by Police Officer

Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Isaac Terer has raised his voice over the attack by a senior policeman on K24 cameraman Duncan Wanga yesterday. Wanga was attacked while filming the street demo in Eldoret.

“The attack  was very  barbaric, inhuman, unlawful and very unacceptable. It is completely out of order  for an officer  to attack a journalist in his line of duty,” said Terer.

He said that Wanga was doing his job and that it is his  constitutional right  under article 34 to gather information so long as its in accordance with the law.

“It is not within the spirit in our society for  such rogue  elements to  spoil the name  of the police by the extend of attacking an innocent  journalist,” he lamented.

Terer added that a citizen should not be harassed by police in any circumstance but respected  with dignity keeping in mind that this is 21st century.

He urged the IPOA, IG and NPS to take action against the officer whom he termed as a bad role model to his juniors.
