The County Assembly of Uasin Gishu has passed a motion seeking to have all road and related civil works in Eldoret done outside business hours preferably at night when most businesses are closed.
In a motion moved by Leader of Majority and Karuna/Meibeki Ward MCA Josphat Lowoi, observed that Eldoret Town is an emerging commercial and economic hub in the North Rift region and that it is important the county government to formulate policies and programs which will enable promotion of conducive business and investment environment.
Lowoi raised concern over interruptions brought by road construction and related civil works carried out during working hours.
“In the recent past there has been increase in traffic in Eldoret town and its environs due to road construction and as a result the business community suffer detriment and losses occasioned by obstruction or interruption of their businesses,” he said.
He pointed out that it is possible and prudent for such works to be done outside business hours to avoid unnecessary obstruction of traffic and businesses.
The motion was seconded by Leader of Minority and Kiplombe ward MCA, Ramadan Ali who decried the unrestricted road constructions and maintenance that not only disrupt normal day activities but also endangers pedestrians.
