Uasin Gishu county assembly Speaker Isaac Terer has asked Education Cs Dr Fred Matiangi and Moi University Council to make public the results of Vice Chancellor interviews so as to allay public anxiety that something fishy is happening at Moi University. He said the public should be told why the first person on the interview Professor Kosgei should not be given the job . Speaker Terer asked Education Cs Dr Fred Matiangi as the appointing authority of University Vice Chancellors to be transparent in his work. He said the procedure in public appointments always states that the person who comes first should either be given the job or the minister give reasons of his rejection . Speaker Terer also questioned why Moi university is allocated a paltry annual budget of 2.8 billon compared to ksh 6 billion for University of Nairobi yet they have the same numbers of student population. Terer was speaking at Mogobich in Cheptiret during a fundsdrive for a boda boda rider killed in road accident but the body is held St Lukes Hospital in Eldoret over a ksh 1.5 million medical bill.
Moi university staff are set to go strike today on myriad of management crisis affecting the public university . Unconfirmed reports say that Deputy Vice chancellor Academics Prof Nathan Okechi is set to be appointed as acting Vice Chancellor . The strike will paralyze graduation ceremonies set for this Thursday and Friday. This is the first major education storm for the minister said to have intrests in the Moi University VC appointment. Moi University had contacted interviews to replace retiring Vc Prof Richard Mibei. Also set to retire are suspended Finance Dc Prof Tuikong and Dv administration Prof Chepkuto who were embroiled in plan to lay off casuals at the second biggest
public University .
