26 students of Lelboinet Secondary School in Elgeyo Marakwet were arrested yesterday in suspicion of conspiring to set fire to their school. They were caught with five liters of petrol.
This follows as other students of St. Francis Kimoron Secondary were charged by a court in Iten for planning to burn their school. They had been caught with jerrycans of petrol. Six of the eleven students arrested after the incident were released on Sh 80,000 bond or a surety of Sh 10,000 each until August 3 when the case will be heard.
There has been a wave of school arson in the last few months across the country. More than 80 schools have experienced fire incidents since January this year.
