Teachers, boda boda riders and domestic workers are the leading culprits in the impregnating of school girls in Uasin Gishu County.
Turbo constituency has the highest number of dropouts due to pregnancy. The constituency has recorded 21 cases.
The county government has come out to curb the rising cases of young girls getting pregnant.
“We have ensured all those involved are hunted down and brought to book because we must give our girls the chance to complete their education,” said Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno.
Twenty seven men have been charged with impregnating school girls in the county within the last one month.
On Thursday last week, the County Assembly of Uasin Gishu passed a motion to establish and manage healthcare unit centers in all sub county hospitals to cater for gender based violence. Teenage pregnant girls will get counselling in such centers.
The motion was sponsored by David Tarus MCA Kapkures Ward. Most of the girls who drop out are within 14 and 16 years of age. Some of them have resumed their studies after giving birth.
