Cyber Cafe’ operators have registered booming business in the past one week as residents of Eldoret have been caught with time like many other Kenyans to file their Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Tax Returns.
This follows today’s (30th June 2016) deadline to file tax returns for the year 2015. Panic stricken residents have been flocking the cyber cafe’s and the Huduma Center seeking mostly information on what is and how to file the tax returns.
KRA has carried out massive awareness in mass media to call upon all Kenyans to file their tax returns. But most of the citizens Eldoret Newsline spoke to are not even aware that it is mandatory to have KRA PIN. “Sisi watu wa jua kali hatujui izo mambo za Tax Returns kwa sababu hatujaajiriwa na serikali,” (Us in the informal sector do not know about Tax Returns because we are not government employees) said Mrs. Anne Rono a grocer at the Eldoret’s Vegetable Market.
Long ques have also been witnessed at the Eldoret’s Huduma Center.
The cyber cafes are charging Ksh. 350 and Ksh. 150 for new KRA PIN application and filing returns respectively.
