Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Asks Parents to Discipline their Children

Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Hon. Daniel Chemno has asked parents to take responsibility of disciplining their children even at school.

Parents are being urged to be the chief disciplinarian of their children.

Speaking yesterday during the handing over of bursary cheques to students of the county at Uasin Gishu county headquarters in Eldoret town, he suggested that parents should be called upon to cane their children in the presence of teachers.

“Because teachers have been banned to cane students, i suggest to teachers whenever they want to punish them to call their parents who are then to cane the students in their presence”, he said. He added that parents have not been barred from caning their children.

This comes in the wake of rampant students strikes and school arson in the past one month. Most affected schools have been in the Kericho, Baringo, Bomet, Nyamira and Kisii Counties.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education has directed teachers to embrace dialogue and alternative ways of problem solving when handling students grievances. He was speaking in Kisii county where the bulk of cases of students burning down and destroying school properties have been witnessed.
