Kenya yesterday came second after host South Africa in the Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Durban. Kenya won 8 Gold, 8 Bronze and 8 Silver medals at the fete where the host collected 33 medals that included 16 medals.

The athletes who bagged the gold medals broke the championship record and Olympic qualification time. Among the gold medalists include Grace Wanjiru and Samuel Gathimba in walking race. Gathimba set a new championship record of 1:19.24.
Other gold winners were Norah Jeruto (3,000m), Douglas Kipserem (5,000m), Alice Aprot (10,000m), Sheila Chepkirui (5,000m), Boniface Mucheru (400m) and Douglas Kipserem (5,000m).
Nigeria came a distant third with 4 gold followed by Ivory Coast, Botswana and Ghana.
